Gov. Henry Signs Bill Cracking Down on False Amber Alerts

Press Release

Date: May 31, 2007
Location: Oklahoma City, OK

Gov. Brad Henry signed legislation today aimed at strengthening the integrity of Amber Alerts. Senate Bill 371 makes it a felony to file a bogus missing-child report that results in such statewide alerts.

"The Amber Alert is an important tool in the recovery of abducted children, and false reports do nothing but waste the resources of law enforcement and degrade the significance of legitimate alerts," Gov. Henry said. "Because this bill helps protect the integrity of Amber Alerts, it ultimately helps protect the children of Oklahoma."

The bill is authored by Sen. Cliff Aldridge (R-Midwest City) and Rep. Charlie Joyner (R-Midwest City).
